| Manager of Food Services |
SUMMARY:
The Manager of Food Services oversees supervision of Food Service staff and all aspects of the food services programs at Union Station's Adult Center and Family Center. The Manager ensures that Food Services are provided in a pleasing, efficient, timely, and cost effective manner and that food service volunteers are supervised in food preparation and food safety in a friendly and welcoming environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise Food Service staff in all aspects of daily meal preparation, service and clean-up to ensure that meals are served in an orderly and timely fashion.
- Coordinate and manage all food-related aspects of Union Station's Dinners-in-the Park on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- Oversee the distribution of food and supplies sufficient and appropriate for the meal services at off-site service centers and of events organized by Union Station.
- Develop appetizing, nutritious menus utilizing donated and purchased food supplies.
- Provide supervision to Food Services Staff. Assess employee performance and prepare annual performance reviews of staff. Counsel and recommend disciplinary action or discharge if needed.
- With the In-Kind Donations Manager, monitor food and supply inventories to ensure their availability at all times and their safe and secure storage.
- Purchase food and supplies at the lowest reasonable costs from public and private suppliers.
- Interact with area food and shelter providers to coordinate sharing of food resources.
- Organize and supervise on-site meals for major holiday celebrations e.g., Black History Month, July 4th, Mexican Independence Day, and Christmas.
- Assist in development of the annual budget for food and supplies and monitors it during the budget year.
- Keep monthly statistics of meals served and expenses. Prepare monthly and yearly reports.
- Develop standards of health and safety in the kitchen in compliance with City, County, and State Health Department guidelines; ensure that such guidelines are implemented and followed.
- Provide a hospitable and welcoming atmosphere for patrons, volunteers, donors, and the community at-large.
- Provide a collegial environment for the kitchen volunteers; train and supervise volunteers in the preparation, service, and clean-up of meals.
- Advise the Director of Volunteer and Community Programs immediately of any problems affecting food services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess current ServSafe Certificate for food handling.
- 2 or more years of commercial kitchen and food preparation experience required.
- 3 years of managerial experience required.
- Volunteer or work experience in a social service / nonprofit setting strongly desirable.
- Associates degree and/or completion of Culinary Arts program desirable.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work some holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas.
