| Part-Time Food Services Assistant |
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Food Services Manager, the Food Services Assistant is responsible for assisting in the operation of the Food Services Program at Union Station's Family Center, primarily, and at the Adult Center, as needed.
SCHEDULE:
20 hours per week (M-F 6:30am - 10:30am). Position requires mandatory attendance on the day before, day of, and day after Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee volunteers and kitchen operations at the Family Center.
- Provide a hospitable and welcoming atmosphere for patrons, volunteers and donors to Union Station.
- Assist volunteers with breakfast preparation and service.
- Organize, courteously acknowledge, and safely process food donations according to Union Station policy.
- Assist Food Services Manager in maintaining inventory of food and paper goods.
- Prepare food and cook as necessary.
- Help maintain all kitchen equipment.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in the kitchen and food storage areas.
- Assist Food Services Manager with menu planning.
- Ensure all linens are kept clean and ready for use in the kitchen.
- Assist with Food Service activities at other Union Station facilities as needed.
- Maintain organization in pantry and food storage areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year of experience working in food services or meal preparation in residential facility, cafeteria or commercial food establishment.
- California food handler card required.
- Knowledge of food storage, preparation and menu planning.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit setting strongly desired.
- Ability to interact effectively with other employees, clients, volunteers and members of the public.
- Able to work weekends and holidays and perform on-call duties, as required.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and to work independently with minimal supervision.
