FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PASSAGEWAYS AND HOMELESS INTAKE:

When can I go to Passageways?
Union Station’s staff at Passageways performs intakes every day, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Passageways operates on a first-come, first-served basis. It is important to go as early as possible. If you arrive too late in the day, you may not have an opportunity to see a case manager that same day.

What do I need to bring?
If you have a picture ID, social security card and a birth certificate for yourself and anyone who is with you, it will make the process much easier. If you do not have these items available, you will still receive services.

How much will it cost?
There is no charge for services.

What will happen when I get to Passageways?
The receptionist will give you some paperwork to fill out. One of the forms will ask you some questions about why you have come to Passageways and how you became homeless. You will then be able to sit in a comfortable waiting room until an intake worker is available to meet with you.

What is an intake worker?
An intake worker is an individual who has the education and experience to assist you with many of the issues homeless people face. Together, you and the intake worker will complete an intake assessment to determine your most immediate needs.

What kinds of services are available at Passageways?
Passageways provides a number of services including case management, support groups, referrals to shelter or transitional housing, limited Section 8 and Shelter Plus Care rental assistance, money management, referrals to drug and alcohol services, psychiatric and psychological services, TB tests, medical services, HIV risk screening and testing, and referrals to veterans’ programs and other community resources.

Do I need to have a substance abuse or mental health problem to receive services?
No, the only requirement to receive services is verifiable homelessness.

Will I be admitted to a shelter in Pasadena?
We work with many agencies throughout Los Angeles County. Your case manager is trained to assess your situation and find the most appropriate placement available.

Do I need to have income?
You are not required to have any source of income to receive services at Passageways. However, the amount and source of any income you do have may affect what referrals are available to you. If you do not have any income at the present time and are eligible for benefits, you will be referred to the appropriate agencies for assistance.
